UKIP's Steven Woolfe in hospital 'after altercation' - Serious condition

He is one of the favorites for the leadership.

Quote:

UKIP leadership hopeful Steven Woolfe was taken to hospital following an altercation at a meeting of party MEPs, interim leader Nigel Farage has said.

In a statement he said Mr Woolfe had "subsequently collapsed" and his "condition is serious".

Mr Woolfe, MEP for the North West, was taken to hospital in Strasbourg for tests.
:erm:

Bizarre. Hope is ok.

Poor guy. I appreciate that things can get heated but to end up in hospital is something entirely different. I wish him a successful recovery and am shocked by the news.

It seems there was a fight between him and another MEP as there was anger he had considered defection to the Tories but still not confirmed.

He recently said he was tempted to defect to the Tories after Theresa May took over, before deciding that Ukip was the only party that could ensure Brexit.

In a statement, he said: "Her support of new grammar schools, her words on social mobility and the growing evidence that she is committed to a clean Brexit prompted me, as it did many of my friends and colleagues, to wonder whether our future was within her new Conservative Party.

However, having watched the Prime Minister's speech on Sunday I came to the conclusion that only a strong Ukip can guarantee Brexit is delivered in full and only our party can stand up for the communities of the Midlands and the North."

According to Sky News just now, there was a dispute and a punch thrown by a fellow UKIP MEP and Woolfe staggered back and hit his head on a metal bar. He was apparently OK at the time, went on to cast a vote but then collapsed having felt unwell and lost the feeling on one side of his body.

The MEP in question is said to have 'gone to ground'.

Let's hope this doesn't turn out to be as serious as it seems.

I've heard he was 'punched several times' and also 'went into a window'. No idea what's true at the moment.

It's very bizarre.

More news here. Sounds like Steven Woolfe and his fellow MEP agreed to "carry the conversation on outside" and hit his head on a metal post when he was punched by fellow Ukip MEP.

Said to be recovering now.

Yes that's the account I was referring to above. Seems surreal really...

UKIP saying he is conscious and recovering thankfully. Very weird though.

He has released a statement saying 1) he's fine 2) being kept overnight as a precaution.

Good result. It won't have made a good impression on voters though.

UKIP will collapse soon, and the swivel eyed loons will crawl back to their natural home, the Tory party. Should be nice for the Ice Queen ;)
