Holidays - fond memories
I have just returned from another weeks holiday, with my family.
But, l just wish that families could go to Holidays Park in the UK, which were reasonably priced. In this day and age Holiday Parks have this trick of TREBLING the price when Schools are out. We went to a Park two weeks ago, and it cost us £170. This week, the price has shot up to a staggering £700. I just wish Holiday companies, thought long and hard that Families struggle each year to ONE WEEK off, and thought lets make it easy for families. I know of one company that runs 90% of Parks in the UK. I remember the days of Barry Island Resort. Magical days, where you could have a decent holiday, and it was cheap. Good old Mr Butlin, who out the holiday maker first. And profits second |
Re: Holidays - fond memories
Each year the Sun run a holiday parks scheme where you collect a number of coupons from the paper. This year 264 destinations from £9.50 a head per week. Too late to collect now but worth a look when they do it again next year?
Usually splashed on their front page at launch. |
Re: Holidays - fond memories
We were lucky enough to be close to Barry Island so that we could have day trips there.
But as a family we drove down to Swanage to the same caravan park for several years. Then the prices shot up and holidays away stopped. My wife and I used to take our young twins to Haven camps, the first time due to a coupon offer in a magazine. But then the prices shot up...... too far for our financial situation. |
Re: Holidays - fond memories
We have wonderful memories at the Newquay and Watchet holiday parks when 10 of our family got together 2 years ago.

Our holidays in Normandy were excellent value for money (Gites de France). Then the ferry prices went up and up and up.....

We holidayed at the Balmoral Hotel in Durban when I was little. Happy days :)

Re: Holidays - fond memories
We used to go hop picking in Kent when I was little. I remember sharing a room in the caravan with my grandad and his teeth in a glass. Still apparently when he was a kid they used to walk large parts of the journey from the east end iirc so it could've been worse.

Re: Holidays - fond memories
A little warning for The Sun Holidays. We went to Park Resorts, and the problems that l was hearing from Holiday makers on them.
They were complaining that Chalets were not cleaned, had to pay for linen etc etc. Very expensive now for Holiday Parks. This is ruining the Parks Holidays, for many families. |
I remember 1 Christmas my grandparents brought MORE PRESENTS than they ever had!!!! (In the late 70s I think)
That morning was something else, def a memory........... I miss my grandpa and Grandma (All 4 are gone now :() And I guess another one to remember is 1 easter my dog (Greyhound) went to my basket ansd took a huge chocolate bunny and ate the whole thing! (Thankfully the chocolate wasnt stale and it didnt bother her) Those are the 2 biggest memorys I can recall...... |

Been going to Potters for the last few years and can't speak highly enough about the place, great food, great entertainment and in my case a lot of booze all inclusive

Re: Holidays - fond memories
It got even worse when Covid hit and you werent allowed to travel. All the UK B&B's, cottages, hotels, etc all bumped their prices up as you could only go on holiday in the UK......and the prices havent gone down.

Re: Holidays - fond memories
I grew up in the Transvaal in South Africa. Most of the countries schools had 4 terms but the Transvaal had 3 which meant longer breaks and also times when we were the only schools out. So we had holidays by the sea while the local schools were still running so more space and I'm sure lower prices (too young to really know). The drag was the 70km/h speed limit and long distances.
