Ebay billing error help needed

I have my first Ebay problem.

I bought something via ebay using my credit card, but my credit card statement online is showing 3 identical transactions saying PAYPAL **** £2.25, the item i bought is £2.25 so it appears i have been billed 3 times.

I contacted the seller and he is saying in garbled English that his Paypal is showing that he charged me only once.

Quote:

dear, my paypal just charge u once, u can checked paypal of u can show me i paid the paypal transaction ID let me help checked ?
I appreciate any help in what i need to do in getting this sorted out as i have not come across this before?

Check your PAYPAL transactions record on the PAYPAL site?

Review your order. To the right of the order it should say Order Total, and below that how you paid. When I check mine, depending on which method I use, it says either Payment method... PayPal or Payment method... Visa, and that is the way the payment then shows on my bank statement.

My order details says 1 item for £2.25 , payment method credit card.

So what should i do next, wait until i get my proper credit card statement then contact my credit card company if it shows as billed 3x £2.25?

Paypal uses your credit card to get reimbursed after paying for your item, another layer of security IMO as the vendor never sees your card details.

Do you have online access to your card account? It's easy to see how you've been billed in advance of getting your monthly statement.

That is my original problem from the first post, I checked my credit card online and it has 3 identical transactions all at the same time but on eBay it only shows the 1 for the order.

you are getting confused Snoopz, when you pay by paypal the money has got to come from somewhere because you haven't got £1 million sitting in your paypal account. Paypal is just a middle man and the seller sees the money coming from payal so you are hidden and paypal charges you. You have two options in your paypal account and you have to have one of them as a minimum. You either give paypal your cc info to charge to or you give it your bank account/debit card info. In my case paypal has both, my bank info is primary source and in the event there is a problem then it charges my cc.
You have a paypal account just as you have a cc account and you can sign into your paypal account and check all your personal info, billing info, address, transaction summaries etc. As soon as you sign in on your main page it gives you a 30 day summary of the money going into and out of your account and the point taf was trying to make is that you can see exactly what paypal have charged to your credit card.
Before you say you haven't got a paypal account or never used it, you have because you would have had to have signed in and set it up before you started using ebay.

Yes still confused as i found the PayPal account but there is no transaction history, I will have to wait and see what happens but the fact is my online CC transactions at the CC company are saying billed 3 times.

Buyers can pay you (the seller) with a credit or debit card using PayPal. They don't necessarily need to create a PayPal account - they can pay as a PayPal guest user. PayPal just processes the card payment and puts the money into your PayPal account.

It sounds as though you chose the option to pay by credit card. So as well as seeing what your CC company say/suggest I would also contact PayPal as they are the ones who processed your payment then paid the seller via his PayPal account. It does appear that the error was made by PayPal and with only one item being bought I would hope that they rectify their error as soon as it is brought to their attention.

It may not be so, but I had a tripler once. They debited, credited, then debited again.

Well i rang my credit card company in the end and explained that i had 2 duplicate payments for the same order, they said they would remove them, although pay pal will have 45 days to appeal but it is unlikely they will do so.

Still no idea if i have been scammed or not by the Chinese ebay seller as i only ever received 1 email confirmation which was correct.

Errors simply happen sometimes.

I got double charged by Asda online shopping once.
I simply contacted the card company, and they removed the second one, as it was an obvious duplicate.

the Chinese dude has nothing to do with charging you. You accept the charge and authorise paypal to take the money out of your bank account and the Chinese dude gets a letter confirming the sale from ebay and then another email from paypal letting you know you have been paid. If you have been charged multiple times then it is paypals mistake. Rather than going through your credit card company I would have emailed paypal ages ago, I am sure they would have fixed it immediately.
