Reports are all over the place. Multiple shooters, multiple locations. None of which are verified other than the shopping mall. Really out of control at the moment.

There's a real danger here that all sorts of chaos is going to be caused over a wide area, creating additional pressures on the security services who have to make sense of all this and allocate resources accordingly. For all we know there are even people posting stuff on social media purely to cause further disruption and hamper the police effort.

3 confirmed gunmen still potentially active shooters. Metro stations evacuated, probably a precaution. GSG9 to arrive in Munich shortly.

Yes. The news media so far has been pretty irresponsible at the moment, reporting other reports of possible locations and it's helping no-one. A single tweet is spread and people start echoing it across the internet and onto the news without any verification. There was a suggestion there is a shooter in Marienplatz which is a massively popular area of the city, it is packed with people all day and all night. Now I don't know what's happening, maybe there is a shooter there, but if there was you wouldn't get 'unconfirmed reports' - you would know. So instead of reporting it without any idea if it's true wait all of 3 minutes until it's verified.

Munich police say terrorist attack is suspected and sadly the death toll now stands at six..

What I hope comes out of tragic events this is that, after all the political bluster associated with Brexit, the people of Europe appreciate that we in the UK are not cutting ourselves off from them, we're severing the bureaucracy. Like the vast majority of people here, I feel deeply sorry for all those whose lives have been taken or destroyed by the terrorists and am certain the result will be ever closer ties and cooperation between our security services and those throughout the EU. Whatever club we may be in, we're all in the crosshairs and must work together to protect our precious European way of life.

Belgium, France, Germany... it's bound to be our turn again sooner or later and given the relative scarcity of armed police here, the fatalities could be huge. When it does happen, I'm sure our EU neighbours will be as appalled and supportive as they were back in July 2005...

Yes and instead of bringing the mobile network to a halt by ringing around spreading gossip, maybe people could stay off their phones unless they're trying to contact loved ones they know might have been caught up in any such incident.

Done and dusted. A lone gunman who was among the 9 dead.

The 3 suspects lead came from a witness statement which Police later retracted after finding out the other two were likely just fleeing.

No concrete motive but can't see why he'd have any ties to Islamic extremism. Although you can't rule out anything these days.

No you can't rule anything out and although this guy might not have been an Islamic nutter, it's likely that he's been influenced by their methods and so was assisting their cause whether he knew it or not.

Was it a left wing McD then? Breivic targeted left wing stuff obv as he was right wing. Guy was a Iranian/German.

I don't know if it was a Islamic or Right Wing attack but I find it a bit ironic that if there's even a sniff of a Right wing angle , they're there quick as a flash, but if it's something else, you've got to drag it out of begrudging lips... funny that.

Yes I've read that also. Like I said, we can't rule out anything yet and who knows what 'justification' he'd have used had he survived. He doesn't have to be a right wing lunatic or Islamic fanatic to do what he did. The point remains that nutters can be influenced by anyone and the likes of ISIS (or anyone else who goes in for mass, indiscriminate murder) won't care a jot who does their work for them.

It's a tough line to walk - we don't want to allow ISIS to take more 'credit' than they're due but if they are 'wrongly' blamed for one atrocity or another that will only add to the public outrage and the political will to destroy them. Maybe we need to start overestimating their reach rather than allowing ourselves to underestimate them...
