Broadband Speeds
Hi, just doing some reading up on the new VM Vivid which says it will take my speeds from 152 to 200Mbps.
I am currently on 'up to, 152 Mbps, using speed test i've always averaged about 40Mbps download speeds and about 12 upload. My phone the other hand get 70+Mbps and 12. Anybody else experience similar. |
Re: Broadband Speeds
I am guessing you're using wireless on your computer and speed is limited to the speed of the devices wireless card, try wired and see what you get.

Re: Broadband Speeds
It's the wireless card in your laptop. It'll be a low-end, 1x1 card, probably Wireless-N but yeah that's the speed you'd expect. You'd need to swap out the wireless card for a better model, use Ethernet or just accept it.
Mind you if you're happy with those speeds, there's just no need to be on 152Mbit. |
Re: Broadband Speeds
Try updating drivers. It may help. Search you're computer manufacturers website for support for your device or you try Windows update...
Right click start icon or press the win key and X > device manager > expand Network adapters > right click the hardware component in question and click on update driver software then search automatically for updated driver software |

Re: Broadband Speeds
So on the back of that, is it worth getting the new VM Vivid 200 if I'm only getting low speeds on my laptop

Re: Broadband Speeds
It totally depends on your needs. Whats for certain is it would be worthwhile buying a USB wifi adapter to go with Vivid 200 or as Kushan said replace your wifi card inside the laptop :tu::)

Re: Broadband Speeds
Vivid 200 isn't solely for people whom have multiple internet users. The OP may want to all the bandwidth for him or herself.

If we had a stable peak time connection I actually suspect we could survive quite happily on a much lower headline speed than the 200 we currently have. |
