Reeva Murder 'Devastated Us', Dad Tells Court

http://news.sky.com/story/1711751/re...ad-tells-court

I am at my wits end on this trial. A woman gets killed, in aparant 'accidental death'

Pistorius, gets sent to prison. And serves the time given by the Judge. And yet, the Prosecution gets another trial and this time for Murder.

The father has already forgiven him for what happened to his daughter, But he wants a severe punishment.

IF he gets another custodial sentence, what does the judge say ' shall we asked the father - what sentence would you like'

If the judge say's. you will go to prison for five years - time already served,

Yes, a girl has been killed, but to me he has already been convicted. By the Courts. Or do they have different laws in other countries.

What do fellow members think.

Strangely enough yes, they do.

Just FYI there is no double jeopardy law in the UK either. In the USA you go to trial and whatever the outcome game over, not the case here.

Yes, but the guy has already been convicted and is doing his bird. I simply cannot understand what the father wants.

Yes, he wants justice for his daughter. BUT, he has forgiven Pistorius. But wants a stronger sentence. Maybe he should excuted. Is that what the father wants.

I like out version of double jeopardy, I.e new evidence has emerged sufficient to warrant a new trial, the American system is bizarre. You could come out and admit you did it, have video of you doing it and a t-shirt says "I got away with it" and no retrial.

Just as a convicted person can appeal the sentence for being too harsh so can the prosecution for being too lenient.

He was originally found guilty of manslaughter, later upgraded to murder after an appeal. I agree with that. There was no way it was an 'accident'

Was was sent to prison then let out on home arrest if I remember rightly.

The family of Reeva may have forgiven him but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be punished for what he did to her and ultimatly her family.

IIRC he was released on home arrest pending appeal of his murder conviction.

EDIT

Found this http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worl...th-Africa.html

Don't forget to scroll down the page.

And this

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016...ntencing-hear/

So he is not undergoing trial again as he was convicted of murder on appeal by the prosecution. This is just the sentencing hearing.
I was also wrong earlier, he was not released pending appeal.

Beats me why the UK media is covering this in so much detail ... what's the public interest here (apart from celebrity voyeurism)?

It was murder pure and simple, he didn't have a leg to stand on
