Birmingham pupil suspended 'for Peaky Blinders haircut'

Joshua Reape, eight, was sent home from his Birmingham school and told not to return for a week because of his "Peaky Blinders haircut", his mum says.
His short back and sides is similar to that of Tommy Shelby, a character in the BBC drama played by Cillian Murphy - a style the schoolboy says he has worn for seven months.
Sent home for having a short back and sides.

Talk about full circle as I can remember the lads from my class being sent home for having long hair in the 60s...

I can't help thinking there must be more to this.

I remember around 1963-64 my Beatles style "mop-top" being frowned upon at school and drew some sarcastic remarks from a few teachers but I didn't get suspended for it!

Found another link HERE Seems rather extreme to suspend the lad allegedly without warning for a haircut he has worn for 7 months! As you say, maybe more to it.

perhaps schools should concentrate on whats in a pupils head not whats on it .

Growing up in South Africa the order for boys was short and smart (the Afrikaaner schools had the short back and sides). That is clear of collar and ears in length. If you exceeded this the head (principal) could give you a bowl cut, put a bowl on head and cut any showing hair.

Now this guy was a great head. He really loved his pupils and was not an officious dragon.

I personally see nothing wrong with this boy's haircut in fact it is far smarter than some of the boys haircuts that attend my son's school but then again I would imagine that his school has the policy as many other schools and would only suspend a child due to poor behavior and not a short back and sides, although I know a boy at my son's school was sent home to change his footwear because he came into to school wearing trainers that were not allowed under the school dress code.

I really hope there is more to this because if their isn't it seems more lunatics are getting control of the asylum.
