Isn't it strange how councils come out with plans to raise extra money.
If its not increase of parking, or people dropping a fag.
Its council plans to charge extra to pubs to clean up the area, and to prevent anti social behaviour.

This is why pubs are going out of business.
Local authorities banned smoking in pubs. Pubs started going out of business.

There were SEVEN pubs near me, they are now Tesco, or OTHER TYPES OF SUPERMARKET.

Its about time Councils got off the backs of the public, thinking we have bottomless pits of money.

Pubs will only put prices up, and more pubs will go to the wall:(

All public areas were cleaned as usual.

Then cuts meant they stopped cleaning as often, if at all.

Laws were passed saying that certain types of public areas had to be cleaned daily.

So the poll tax went up.

Then those same areas stopped being cleaned as often, if at all.

Councils and local authorities need to get their money from somewhere.

Its a fair shout to ask businesses that lead to mess on the streets at night to help pay for the cleaning.

I think all shops and fast food,nightclubs,pubs and all places that provide a service should ensure that the area in which they are situated is kept clear of litter..whatever the time of day as well as all residents in the town should sort out the litter around their own premises.

Any fines can be used to pay to target fly tippers who are currently the bane of most councils.It's an expensive business finding them and taking them to court.

We've had this in Newcastle since 2013 ,the late night levy is used for extra policing and door staff training ,the levy costs between £299 and £4,500 dependant on the size of the venue .Three bars have blamed the levy for closure but most people agree the bars would have shut anyway as they where badly in need of refurbishment and just plain rubbish anyway .
If football grounds have to contribute to policing then why not late night bars where it's probably fair to say ,there is generally more trouble than in football grounds ?

On the flip side you post regularly expecting councils and government to have bottomless pits of money to supply the services you believe you're entitled to.

Wanting public services as long as someone else pays seems to be a recurring theme.

There are a couple of very good pubs near you, including the famous Turk's Head. I spent a lot of really good afternoons there. I'd love to have a pub of that quality nearby. Your mileage may of course vary as to what you think makes a good pub. The Crown and to a lesser extent St Margaret's Inn were also superb.

Ah working weekends with 3 days off in the middle of the week: going for a boozy lunch in Brula, followed by more booze in The Crown, then picking up the daughter from Orlean's Infants. Happy, hazy days :p:

Last year our Council handed the cutting of grass verges and other areas to a private company. When they cut the grass in our area you would think the guy on the mower was Lewis Hamilton, he goes flat out and it was that bad once he churned most of the soil up. There is grass cuttings all over the pavements and it can get slippy when it rains. Last year some of us complained and there was a big imrovement, sadly this year the driver of the mower is back into top gear and there are grass cuttings all over the place. Seems like it is time to complain again.
