Seagull Committee
 

A dedicated seagull committee could be created to handle the scourge of swooping birds in Conwy (Wales).

Officers have recommended a task group looks at other options and "religious matters" arising from any restrictions.

They're the seaside equivalent of feral pigeons really and many places suffer from both. My parents used to live by the Kent coast and the gulls nesting on their roof were a PITA.

We're a few Kms from the shore, but the local Tesco and industrial estate's roofs are covered with them and their nests.

We have about 140 pairs of Heron Gulls that fly (to and through) from a landfill site in Southern Essex which is 35 miles as the Crow flys (sorry about the pun) to West Kent, here they nest all spring/summer/autumn on warehouse/industrial sites. They have not yet been chip/food thieving as yet like they do at the seaside which is the natural habitat. It is an impressive site when you see them return in the evening in mass flocks.

Welsh seagulls are little better than terrorists; particularly on the Conwy area. A tourist and his chips are easily separated on Llandudno pier, I know... Then they crap their ill gotten gains on you. Shoot them all now.

You should try to eat a pasty or icecream near St Ives harbour...


Tesco had someone on the roof during nesting season swapping the real eggs for plastic ones. But for that to work you have to keep at it... and they didn't.

As usual, I reckon quite a lot of those who're tolerant of the problem don't have to live with it day in, day out. A former next door neighbour used to put all sorts of food out for 'local wildlife'. As a consequence we suffered from large numbers of rats, squirrels and a resident flock of feral pigeons who used our roof to perch on driving us made. Fortunately she eventually moved away and the problem disappeared with her.

Sea gulls in Llandudno are not new. One Maximus Boyce sung about them way back

Why do they need a committee? Don't they already have pest controllers, or an environmental health department that could cover it?

The Welsh Assembly (spit) is very good at forming committees that seem to do nothing but talk.
