Can i cut and reroute my external VM cable

I am having some alterations done and need to reroute and shorten the external VM cables for the TV and broadband. I have purchased a new VM external termination box, RG6 snap n seal F type connector and crimp tool from Ebay so I am all set to go. My question is, can I cut through the external VM cable to shorten it or will this cause my service to cut off rendering my efforts useless once I fit the new F type connector and connect everything back up? Or, will everything just start working again once it is reterminated?

Yes you can.

The question is really "Am I allowed to?".

The answer then would be NO.

That said if VM don't know then you won't get into trouble. Doing it won't affect your service.

If I were you I would phone Customer Services!

I suspect they will send someone round to do it, quite probably at a cost, but at least you won't be in breach of your contract.

Customer alterations have been known to affect every customer on the connected cabinet, so doing anything unapproved is very risky, & could prove very costly if you are found out to be the source of the issue. Also a change in length of cable may put your signal levels out of spec.

Why don't you just coil up the excess cable and tape it together? Then you won't be altering the cables characteristics.

I may just coil it up then as it is only being pulled back approx 5 meters. For some reason Virgin have clipped the double cable across the front of the house to fit the joint box where the phone line goes into the house only to run a coax all the way back again for the TV & broadband. I therefore have 3 cables across the front of the house instead of one small phone cable which could easily be moved for the building work.
