BBC2 Wales
Why can't we get BBC2 Wales on VM ? We get BBC1 Wales. Missing out on on a terrific Oxford v Swansea cup tie.

Re: BBC2 Wales
It has always puzzled me that we get the BBC regional variants but not those for BBC2.
I do struggle to understand sometimes how VM make their carriage decisions. |
Re: BBC2 Wales
Likely to be money, & channel space. The BBC1 varients are carried mainly because of the regional news content. There is little incentive for VM to carry any others. BBC channels are paid for by the licence fee. VM is obliged to carry core BBC1 & 2 services, but I doubt they would get any revenue from the BBC for carrying the others.
Also some programmes have rights issues & can only be shown in that region. This means that Virgin actually has to decode two versions of each region at the SHE in Langley. The one meant for viewers inside the region, & the one for customers outside, that is blocked when restricted programmes are shown. |
Re: BBC2 Wales
Oxford United v Swansea City was shown live on VM via the BBC Sport App/Red Button on Tivo

Re: BBC2 Wales
While we're on the subject, do other regions have their local content in SD only? I'm in Wales, and even on the HD channels, our local news is SD and noticeably poorer in terms of feed quality.
I'm sure this was highlighted in Match of the Day last night as the Oxford v Swansea game was poorer in quality, presumably because it was from the BBC Wales feed. Do other regions have HD? Obviously a BBC issue not Virgin, but it just annoys me that these programmes are broadcast on 108 and not in HD. And there are quite alot of them. |
Re: BBC2 Wales
BBC2 doesn't broadcast regional variations in HD on any platform.
