Final Shift At Britain's Last Deep Coal Mine
http://news.sky.com/story/1607780/br...e-set-to-close
The Tories certainly have it in for British Industry, first we have the steel industry gone to the wall, as they don't support the British worker. Now we have the Big K, coal mine closing down, due to cheap imports. But the funny side, but wicked side is that the company that will supply coal for the power station NINE MILES from the coal mine. Will be from across the world about 3.000 miles away. How stupid is that. Isn't it about time this Government put the British Industry first. |

The graph shows a drop of around 200,000 jobs in between 1964 and 1970. |

Whilst it is cheaper to import from overseas, it makes perfect sense to hold onto our own stockpiles where they are.

Very true, it's not like its got a best before date has it. It's still there if they want it later.

Many still are AFAIK, with pumping and gas checks, plus propping. Mothballed, but even that status can change if the money runs out.

I don't know if shafts etc have to be maintained, but presumably they got a shaft there in the first place, I'd have thought if they did it then, they can do it again if the will & need is great enough. |

I expect that it would be far more expensive to dig new tunnels and hence make the cost of the coal higher but it might still be economic to do so in the future. |
Re: Yet again the Tories are allowing British Industry Grind to a halt
The shafts wilk be filled in unless it becomes a British heritage site, and then it'll be left to flood, just like the one in Stoke-on-Trent
