Next Generation VM TiVo what would you like to see ?

With rumours flying around about a new VM TIVO box what would you like to see.

I've not included a speed boost as I take it thats a given looking at comments.

l voted for more tuners , A larger HDD and a better selection in the app section.

I never thought I would need more that 3 tuners, but we seem to be maxing out all three quite often now, so another one or two would prove really handy.
Dont need a larger drive as we dont "store" recordings once we have watched them

Cloud based storage rather than having recordings stored loaclly. That way you wouldn't loose recordings when changing STB and you could then stream to other devices easily.

Faster GUI, whether that is via better CPU/GPU and RAM or just optimising the TiVo OS.

I know of other providers that have plans to put cloud storage in place.

For me to be able to use the menus and app such as BBCi without having to wait 2-3 minutes for it to load.

More tuners, as most of what I want to record is usually at the same time of day. Plus I'd like a more responsive menu and dynamic EPG.

Which providers you talking about ?

I'm sure all the providers will move in this direction going forward , the harder part will be getting the rights in place.

Agreed, but terms will need to be acceptable. For example, how long will we be allowed to keep them and how many recordings will be allowed?

And it will be the right's holders that will be trying to keep that to as small a length of time as possible and as few recordings as possible. Many people like to store up a full 22 episode season before starting to watch and take over a year to start to watch. And what about adds? will or will they not include them? At least with a hard disc recorder you can fast forward them. Both systems have their negative and positive aspects.

Cloud storage seems to be the in thing these days but I'm not sure it's feasible in this situation.

You are essentially asking for every show on every channel to be stored in the cloud for potentially an infinite amount of time. I really can't see rights being sold under these conditions. It basically turns your whole EPG into a sort of streaming service.

If you factor in the the one off cost of a large HDD compared to the above scenario I'm sure local storage would win for a while

I had a survey from VM asking the same the other day. Hey, if anything they were asking about comes true, it's exciting times!

I went for more tuners and the ability to download recordings to a tablet as I travel a lot with work

I'd want local storage for those times the network isn't working (fully) so can only access recorded material.

I would like more apps (Amazon) and definitely more speed in the UI. Additional tuners OK, maybe ability to attach external storage/NAS, could still DRM it so need Virgin device or app to view but maybe could share between devices. If could do that so different TiVo's in house could access shared storage that could help relieve the tuner count.

That already works fine - got two here - one for each TiVo.

The only odd thing is the (US) coloured buttons do not match the UK order.

Speed, make switching between channels under 2 seconds, and navigating the menus speedy and not like its wading through treacle

Your comments pretty much cover what I was thinking . Cloud based storage is a must for me along with speeding up TiVo.
