Update:

GUNMEN armed with grenades have killed nine people and taken 170 people hostage at a hotel "where Air France crew stay".

Around ten Islamist terrorists arrived at the Radisson Hotel in Mali's capital Bamako at 7am and started shooting on the seventh floor.

They entered shouting "allahu akbar" and explosions were heard, according to news reports. Gunmen allowed hostages who could recite verses of the Koran to escape, security sources said.

I wonder if these people 'brought it on themselves' as well?

Well, the terrorists have peeved the Chinese off - that's probably sub-optimal.

Do the Chinese have a lot of interests in Mali then?

Mali Aside, the Chinese have interests in large swathes of Africa so they'll be as keen as anyone to stop the spread of Islamic extremism there. In Mali they signed contracts worth billions earlier this year.

There were also some Chinese amongst the dead.

It's that peaceful religion again.

I wish they'd stop spreading so much peace.

Indeed but countering the statement as you did with your point, begs the question "what is your point?"

The statement was made to counter ther tiresome rhetoric that Islam is a religion of peace, love and tolerance - of which evidence is scant, to,say the least.

Has the UK ever claimed to be successful exponent of spreading democracy? I've always found us a bit imperialistic, when have we ever gone into somewhere with the prime objective to induce democracy?
