Poppy seller, 71, left fighting for her life after brutal mugging

I read this article and had a tear in my eye. An OAP doing something good and gets mugged near her home

Over the last few weeks crime has increased - we have had FIVE stabbings in my area alone - two fatal.

We need extra policing on the streets, not less. It will come to a point where many people just simply wont go out after dark.

I fail to see how having more policing on the streets would have made any difference. Unless you expect them to employ so many that we can have one on every street at all times.

Crime is decreasing. they even say so.

there will come a point where you'll have to go out with a bat.

Reported crime is decreasing but unreported crime is on the increase.

Yeh that's what I said.
people can't be bothered to report crime because the police don't care. and there's nothing they can do anyway.
they go into work like many thousands worrying if they still have a job today..
when they never had this worry then they'd take a bit more interest in your crime. but whilst poshboy who talks like he's got something in his gob and someone who looks like he takes strong medication is ruining this country together. then nobody cares anymore.

As l have said loads of time on this forum, l work with the vulnerable, Mostly the elderly, but quite often the young.

Society, look upon the elderly as an easy target, young lads that walk the streets are victims of crimes. When you get a gang of lads who think, 'ah l am one of the lads, go and do someone' and find it fun.

My main point is that we need more policing on our streets, NOT less. I spoke with a 16 year old disabled lad, recently and he had his mobile phone stolen, by a group of lads.

He was scared to tell his parents of this. Eventually after a bit of persuasion. He pointed the guys out. These were arrested - 17 and 18 years old.

They got community service.

The elderly WILL NOT open the doors after a certain time in fear - this is why we need local neighbourhood policing, that take care of THERE community. And yet we are told that this is being reduced even further.

What is this world coming to when you cannot walk the streets - without being robbed

Country.
you have to stop and think why Dave and his men want to cut the police and effectively increase crime.
or cut the police and make crime as common as Youtube.

I remember the days when a party would make policing a priority. and say something about making our streets safer.

Dave is up to something. believe me.
the man has a motive.

Also was a time when communities would care for the weak and often deal with minor incidents without involving police. Now that would end you in more trouble. And some offenders are good barrack room lawyers - too many rights without responsibility.

And communities (not all) are often more insular, spending more time at home in front of 230+ channels, on-demand and the internet than getting out, meeting the neighbours and taking care of those that need it. And yes there are exceptions, usually in poorer and minority communities. Generally we don't honour the elderly and look out for the weak.
