Sharing a signal between two tv's in different rooms
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
I have a tivo V+ box downstairs in my lounge and a wall mounted tv in my bedroom upstairs. I used to use a wireless video sender for a good number of years but for the last couple of months my receiver in my bedroom seems to be playing up and I think it might be time to either look for a better solution or just another units. At the moment the TV upstairs keeps switching on/off when i have the receiver plugged in. When I unplug the receiver it stops switching on/off. I've also been having no signal and when i play about it sometimes improves but I think neighbours have all got wifi now and it wouldn't surprise me if its interference from their routers. I'm wondering whether I should go for a 5GHz setup and it would be nice to be able to watch HD channels in the future once i update the tv(it doesn't have HDMI inputs, see my picture below). Or any thoughts of using a Slingbox with a raspberry pi instead? Is there perhaps a better solution that doesn't use wifi? I really dont want to pay Virgin £50 to come out to install another box and to have a box mounted next to the tv, plus the extrs £6/7 a month to pay for the luxury. I dont need to be able to watch different channels between the sets just a case of streaming the current channel and to be able to change channels. Any advice/tips very much appreciated. This is the inputs my tv upstairs can use: Attachment 26378 |

Could be a WiFi interference problem, or it could be a faulty sender. Moving to 5Ghz also has issues, as the higher frequencies do not travel so well through walls etc. If you use a Slingbox, you will only be able to use analogue connections, so no HD (HDCP restrictions will prevent HD pictures getting through to the box). A long HDMI cable is an alternative, but again, any splitter you use must be HDCP compliant, & if you change to a TiVO (which you might have to in the near future) you will might find it a very fussy piece of kit, even with some TV's.

Hi Nodrogd,
Thank you for the reply. Although having HD content upstairs would be nice it seems like its going to be quiet a mission to get the right kit etc. so lets just shelve that idea. Actually, what I'll do is take the receiver downstairs tomorrow and try it out on my primary tv to see if it switches on/off. Unfortunately my video senders only have three channels so there is not much room in scope of trying less used channels this is mainly the reason why I asked about 5GHz senders whether it might offer me more channels to try and at a different frequency. I dont have a huge house and so in a straight line the signal would only have to go through the ceiling up through the floorboards to the tv. Are there other video senders that might over more than 3 channels? Just a thought but what about a Google Chromecast, could I not stream the content through my wifi network? |
