Recording issues

My daughter complains that her Tivo recordings cut off after 40 minutes and it is very annoying.

I'm going over there shortly to see if I can work out what has gone wrong. I can't think of anything in the Settings that might be causing this apart from the overlapping options.

Has anyone on here had similar issues and what they did to resolve them? It might give me a head start to know that!

I will try re-setting the box, look at the recording hiccups and take a look at the settings to see if they look OK, but is there anything else I can check? She's reluctant to get a technician out as it is inconvenient to wait in for hours until he arrives but I have a feeling it's a box problem.

Find out if it only happens if the recording was made when the TV was in standby. There's a compatibility problem with some TVs that causes the TiVo to reboot sporadically when the TV is in standby. If it is this, the workaround is to put the TiVo into standby BEFORE the TV.

Thanks, as ever, spiderplant.

My daughter is using the TV we stopped using a few months ago (an LG) and we never had that issue, so I don't think it's that but I will bear this in mind when I go over there.

I agree, probably not. See what Hiccups says.

Called in at my daughter's house and quickly discovered the reason for the problem.

The recording hiccups showed the problem as ' no power'. It turns out that her partner has been pulling all the plugs out at night! Hence the premature ends to recordings and failures to record....

Thanks for your help, spiderplant. Didn't think it was going to be that easy to resolve!

Doh. Wouldn't want to be him when he comes home later. Especially if it was her favourite soap or reality show that got disrupted. The women in my family get a bit miffed if they miss an episode of TOWIE. Why, I don't know. A chocolate teapot is more use than anyone in TOWIE is. In my own personal opinion that is!
