I have altered the thread title and deleted one thoroughly inappropriate reply from this thread. Please remember the law severely restricts what you can say about a case once someone is charged with a crime, and comment responsibly.

Emergency worker killers should face a whole life sentence.

As with all of these cases, I'll wait for the trial and make my mind up then.

Assuming the CPS don't blink and accept a plea it will be interesting to see if life means life for the murder of a Police officer as the home sec claimed or if she was talking rubbish again.

Unless she's followed that up by, at the very least, changing the sentencing guidelines, it's difficult to see how anything she has said could directly affect the outcome of this case ... assuming he is convicted, of course, or pleads guilty.

Could be either, but probably the latter.

I automatically assume everything out her mouth is a lie at the very least and can't recall anything further being done after she announced it.

IF he proceeds to trial for murder and not s1 rta I can see 20-25 years being at the top end of any sentence. Guilty pleas will probably reduce that further. :(

A man accused of murdering PC Dave Phillips has accepted his driving caused the officer's death but said he did not intend to kill him.

The 34-year-old father-of-two died after being hit by a pick-up vehicle in Merseyside on Monday.

Clayton Williams, 18, "extended his apologies" to the officer's family, in a statement from his solicitor after a preliminary hearing.

Mr Williams was earlier remanded in custody at Liverpool Crown Court.

He is due in court again on 22 October.

I wonder whom he's more sorry for - the victim and family or himself...

What makes their lives more important ?

It should not matter who the victim was.

It doesn't make their lives more important, their job makes them vulnerable and in some peoples opinion any sentence for crimes against them deserve an enhanced sentence like we expect with child abusers/killers. There is also the need to deter criminals from attacking people we expect to protect society. Not sure where I stand myself but I can certainly see the need for whole life sentences needing to be considered at least in the sentencing of police murderers.

I don't think we should value lives more than others.

but I do think we should allow the persons address to be published and then people can go around their house and give them a piece of their mind.
that way crime will significantly drop over night. and we'd save a lot of money.

We would also place justice in the hands of the kind of idiots who don't know the difference between a 'paediatrician' and a 'paedophile', leading to incidents like this:

These things are best left in the hands of those who are trained and qualified.

Maybe someone would turn up at Gary's door and prove what a stupid idea he had.
