Re: For those who say GPs are not under pressure to cut refferals

My previous GP and his colleagues (now all recently retired) said I would be referred to a specialist if my health condition did not improve. It has not.

Their replacements (all locums) decided instead to put me on a long term drug regime which I know, and they know, is considered dangerous and not best practice. I queried this and was told they were under pressure to severely reduce referrals to hospital specialists. No mention of financial bribes of course.

I contacted the Health Authority who replied quickly, sending me for a consultation with a specialist GP. She referred me immediately to the hospital specialist and told me not to take the meds I had been prescribed.

The hospital specialist has put me on an urgent treatment list.

The Health Authority has called in the Practice Manager and senior GP to explain their actions.
