HD sound

I have a Sony Smart TV and I have noticed that the sound on all HD channels is much quieter, to the extent that I have to increase the volume from 18 to 40!

Is there any way I can standardise the volume between HD and SO channels?

It's not a major problem for me, just an irritation, but I do wonder if my sound settings are correct. Not sure if this is a TIVO or a TV issue, but I didn't get this on my LG TV.

I've noticed on my 42" Smart Bravia that dolby 5.1 encoding on downloaded movies is always very quiet needing at least 40-50. Could be the same effect?
