Hiding wifi signal SHUB 1
My brother has the SHUB 1 and I am wondering if it were possible to hide the WIFI signal yet have his wifi stuff still connect to the router?
I've not had a chance to look at the router myself but I'm sure you can |

Re: Hiding wifi signal SHUB 1
What exactly does he want to achieve by "hiding his WiFi signal" (which you can't really do, at least not effectively)

Re: Hiding wifi signal SHUB 1
I presume he means turning off the ssid which on the superhub is under the primary wireless tabs as a check box entitled Enable SSID Broadcast. You'll need to disable it on all bands (2.4 & 5Ghz) for later superhubs

Re: Hiding wifi signal SHUB 1
Some low life has been bothering him on and off, I've just found out the other day knocking on his door asking to borrow money, food and now his wifi signal until he gets his own.
My brother is one of these that doesn't want any hassle so gave him his wifi password until he got his own BB but it has been 4 weeks now and I have just found out. So he doesn't get any hassle I'm going round his place to change the password and hide his wifi signal to try and stop the guy from scanning for it and to tell him he doesn't have BB anymore. Failing that I said just tell the guy it's mine and I pay for it and I kicked him off. I thought turning it off would be a better option for him. At least until I can have a word with this guy myself. Thanks for the links, I've got my own router attached to the Shub1 but without taking my router out to have a look I wasn't sure. |

Your brother will also need to change the SSID as devices set to remember it will happily connect whether the SSID is being broadcast as part of the beacon frames or not.

Re: Hiding wifi signal SHUB 1
Your Shub 1 is doing well to get a wi-fi signal at all, I couldn't get mine to cover all the house, let alone anyone elses.

Re: Hiding wifi signal SHUB 1
In this day & age is it possible to hid a SSID, I have an app that find all Wi-Fis in range, my works is hidden but the app finds it.
But the IT at work is crap to the point if the IT guy dropped a PC on the floor he would miss :D |
