pc gaming controller

I'm thinking of taking up gaming on the pc via steam and one of the games I wanna get is my all time favourite street fighter.

Can anyone recommend a good controller not just for this game but others I may choose to play.

Thanks.

Well you can't go wrong with an Xbox controller on a PC.

Or a PS3 controller.

PS3 controller requires a bit more additional setup, Xbox 360 seems to be the most accepted. Personal preference on which you prefer really. I go for a wired 360 controller.

One of the best third party controllers I've played with. Seems the popularity got the better of it and thus increased the price given I got it for £20 at Christmas.

Standard 360 wired controllers could be had for around the £20ish mark now I would assume.

Most people I know use the PS3 controller over the Xbox one. I don't know what the setup is, as far as I know they're both just ordinary Bluetooth.

Xbox controllers are wireless.

I don't think i've ever seen a PS controller recommended for PC. The XBOX one usually works with games out of the box whereas PS ones usually need some faffing around to get them setup in each game.

Yes i also hear the drivers are easier to get to work for the 360 controller, not sure about the Xbox One though. :)

They're just plug and play. In case there's any confusion i meant the 360 controller, probably a poor choice using the word 'one' after XBOX :)

WTF is bluetooth if it isn't wireless???

What protocol to Xbox/PS wireless controllers use? A quick google came up with this (Not Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth (which the PS3 and Wii use). Some sort of proprietary 2.4 GHz protocol)

I remember I bought an adapter to connect my 360's wireless controllers to my PC, I stopped using after throwing 3 controllers at the wall playing battlefield. :D

I see the opposite. The PS3 controller works out of the box with any Bluetooth device.

Dunno about the wired ones, who on earth uses wired controllers anyway? The 1990's called, they want their controller back!

it's slightly different, but I'd imagine similar, but to use my ps3 blu ray remote with my pc, I use a standard bluetooth transmitter in the pc, but I had to find and download a little program some-one wrote to actually use the remote.

the xbox controller prob uses standard windows wifi stuff

Apparently it's Wireless but not Wireless so it needs a dedicated Wireless receiver.

When i said works out of the box i meant that pretty much every game has native support for a 360 controller, that isn't the case of the PS3 one. For a PS3 controller you either need to use a separate program to remap the buttons or motionjoy to have it emulate a 360 controller in a lot of games.

As for bluetooth vs wireless i don't really see how that's a plus or minus for either, both require you to have a receiver the 360 wireless controller comes with one anyway which is also just plug and play with no messing around.

You'd be surprised how many people just use the wired one. It comes with a huge lead and just works.

Edit - reading back through your posts i'm not sure if you've even used either of them.
