Brooks to return as Murdoch's UK boss

Rebekah Brooks will return as chief executive of Rupert Murdoch's UK newspaper operations on Monday.

She resigned in 2011 in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal and was given a £16m payoff by News Corp.

Mrs Brooks was cleared by a jury of phone-hacking charges last year.

Whilst I disagree with almost everything Rebekah Brooks stands for, if she was found not guilty of criminal charges, she should be allowed to work - it's not as if News International (or most other newspapers) hire on ethics and morals....

The thing is Hugh she said that she knew about none of the phone hacking and corrupt payments to public officials and we are supposed to believe that to be true and if that's the case then she has to be one incompetent Chief Executive that's for sure.

Yes, we are "supposed" to believe it's true - because a jury of her peers heard the evidence and concluded that it was true. Given that she has been cleared in court of criminal behaviour, the rest of us really have no more to say on the matter.

As for whether she is competent and/or worth the money as a CEO, well that's a matter for her, Uncle Rupert and the shareholders.

Incidentally - I don't much care for her professionally; that, however, is by the by. I don't have to buy her product, and I don't.

Maybe she just had a good lawyer? I don't think being hired (again) by Murdoch is a ringing endorsement of her credibility, skills or morals. She will be judged on what she oversaw (or didn't) in her previous job and who she works for now.
