Routers for range and wall travel
 

Hi guys i currently have a virgin media superhub on upto 152mb, I do get near that speed with Ethernet cable. The wireless however isn't that good, and barely get signal on other side of the house.

I've been looking for routers with good range to use with the superhub, and have been advised

- ASUS RT-N66U
- Netgear WNDR4500


Could anyone suggest what one would be better, or any better alternatives? I've read people have been having problems with the asus rt-n66u and VM, is this still the case?

Neither for the price. You should be looking at AC devices if you're going to fork out that much. Also its not all down to the router. The devices connecting to the router need to be looked at too. Example I have an n card in a laptop which is intermittent 8-10 meters away from the SH2AC but its a different story with a Belkin n usb adapter in which conveniently has 5GHz connectivity.

Are the devices connecting to the SH n/a/ac?

Hi so the asus rt-n66u is £70, so not too bad for price?

The devices are PS4, PS3, dell inspiron 15r laptop, iphone 6, ipad mini

Its not worth it considering you could get yourself an AC router for a little less or more. There are a fair few recent threads around the forum, some in this part and some in VM Internet services such as this today http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...-superhub.html

Is it a SH2 or SH2AC you have?

the iphone 6 should be able to test speeds at 5GHz a/ac rates to rule out your router being an issue. have you done this from various spots where connectivity is required? also tested at standards those devices are connecting at.

are you out of contract? if so then get yourself on a new deal with new equipment. if you are in contract then call in anyway and tell them your wireless speeds are bad and you cannot have 2.4GHz and 5GHz running at the same time on the top broadband tier they offer which is pathetic really even if you have only 1 device able to connect at 5GHz and above. having said that before doing so what are your connection stats like? printscreen and post these if you don't know...

I have the RT-N66U and I'm on the fastest speed and never had problems. I bought it when it first came out so paid a huge amount, but it was worth it.

Depending on your budget I would go for the lastest model.

Try '0' instead of '100' 100 is if your router is in modem mode.

nope those links should work whether the SH is in router or modem mode. 100 is universal on the SH. However if there are troubles getting to the SH interface then navigate yourself via either address...

or

192.168.0.1

click on router status (top right)

then downstream and upstream

as much as that SH can support the tier you're on it is no doubt pathetic being on such a speed with outdated hardware.

Hi so apparently i'm not in contract anymore! they were happy to offer me a new superhub 2 for £20 (delivery charge), however i'll be getting one from retentions tomorrow hopefully FOC.

:tu: looks good. jump on a decent deal if you can get one out of them. also its the SH2AC you want not just the SH2.

Just a heads up if you haven't already read that there is a new SH to be released soon but it hasn't yet been released for wider testing so it could be a while yet.

I swapped for a SH2AC - it's not a bad little box (much better for wifi than the SH1).
