TV interviewer & cameraman murdered on air

Quote:

Two US journalists have been shot dead during a live TV report in the state of Virginia, their employer has confirmed.

WDBJ7 TV reporter Alison Parker, 24, and cameraman Adam Ward, 27, were killed during an interview in Moneta, Bedford County, the TV station said.

During the live broadcast, shots and the reporter's screams could be heard, and the camera fell to the ground.

How truly awful! I can only imagine how the families and loved ones must feel having quite possibly seen this on the news before being informed officially.

No doubt the NRA will insist the answer to this is more guns... :spin:

Ah, the right to bear arms. Makes the whole community safer, donchaknow.

RIP, two people just doing their job. :(

He even filmed the whole murder and posted it on Facebook and Twitter! :(

Cue a bunch of morons trying to save that if they'd only both been carrying guns it could've been averted. The forum has an emote better than any words for that one: :upyours:

Thoughts with their loved ones. She was dating a man who worked at the station, they had just moved in together. He was engaged. Both had an entire lifetime to live. Such a tragic and unnecessary waste of life :(

I've been thinking how to word this.

As far as I see yes this is awful, but the only reason is front page news on UK papers is that it was on live TV when it happened.

Had it been non-live we would not have heard about it, as it would have been just another shooting, in a country that has a warped sense of humanity.

As the right to have a gun is more important than free healthcare.

I just inadvertently found the clip of him shooting her. Something really strange there, they reckon his gun was a pretty powerful one yet he fires off 4 or 5 shots at her from point blank range but she simply turns away and runs. I don't know much about guns but her being able to do a runner is not what I'd expected to happen.

I saw the clip from a red tops website, the woman on the left is the one who runs but I don't know if she was shot or if it missed her.

They all got shot, the reporter was the one on the left.

He's holding it one-handed because he's trying to film at the same time. The recoil would be pretty severe and with him not holding the gun properly, he could easily have missed multiple times, especially as his subsequent shots follow on so quickly he can't even be aiming properly.

I haven't viewed his cam phone footage, nor do I wish to, but I suspect if you did see it, you would find that part way through he stops concentrating on aiming the camera and starts concentrating a bit more on the gun, seeing as he was so keen to actually kill these people. :(

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not shouting 'conspiracy' or anything. But word is he filmed it using a 'GoPro' style chest mounted camera. You're right about your second point though, you only 'see' the actions of the first 3 or 4 shots, after that it all gets messed up and blurry.

IIRC The few seconds of his footage that I saw on the BBC news showed he was holding the pistol one handed before opening fire. I could be wrong though, and I'm not about to go looking ...
