New IP
Has anyone else in Swansea had a new IP address today for no reason?
I had a tech visit earlier because i had high upstream and was locking onto just one channel. When the tech arrived he realised i had no connection and when i finally got back on i checked thinkbroadband and saw i hadnt had a connection for around 2hrs. All the tech did was lower my upstream levels and not only have all the channel IDs have changed in the hub for both upstream and downstream but its changed my IP address and the tech cant understand why the IP address has changed when there has been no change of equipment. Any ideas? |
Re: New IP
ya, it may be a huge coincidence but if they were doing some upgrades in the area you may have been moved to a different line card which is why you are now using a different channel bonding group and also allocated to a different pool of ip addresses.

Re: New IP
U r spot on. Just checked on thinkbroadband under what's my ip and I've been moved. Strange tho the move took place during the day. I always thought they did this work at night.

Re: New IP
It's entirely possible your DHCP lease just renewed during the day.

My VM went offline at 1pm yesterday for about an hour, when it came back I had a new IP. |
Re: New IP
Paul I think it's all part of the 200mb upgrades getting the network ready.

Re: New IP
well they are not doing very well because a few peeps (including myself) seem to have lost an upstream channel this weekend.

My IP hasn't changed, I don't think much does change in my area ever, heh. |
Re: New IP
Is there anyway of checking to see whether or not an IP address is on a blocked list of any kind?

Re: New IP
well its apparently blocked on 4 lists.
How do i get them unblocked? |
Re: New IP
If you had to look on a list you are probably not going to notice it in normal operation.
For the most part they cover dynamic IP address ranges and are used by email servers as a way to prevent open relays from causing grief. |
Re: New IP
But to answer the question, get in contact with whoever is running the block list. They all have ways of getting off the list, you usually just need to email them.
