Getting VM in a different name same house
 

I'm just wondering could I get the same VM package in my name rather than the current one in my wifes name and get the 12month discount they offer while wife cancels her contract with them?

if she is locked into a contract, a contract that has not yet run its full course, the duration she signed up for that is then no unless there is good reason, buying out the contract for example. if the duration of the signed contract has its full course then of course you can renegotiate a deal including switching names but she will have to be present during said switch over.

No you can't. You can have the account transferred to your name if you want, but you won't be treated as a new customer.
