Do those cars suggest a even further modern look? Seems like another 20 year jump and to the sixties now.

Hit and miss for me the second game but still very enjoyable. It lacked a true sandbox experience but had a pretty decent story regardless and graphically it was flawless. I've heard criticism already but this is one of those games that is really a gem.

The official line is apparently that Mafia III is set in a time where there was serious racial tension in the US. The rumour is that it's set in 1968, which would seem to be born out by the trailer, as the clothing and hairstyles of the characters along with the style of the cars are from the late 60s/early 70s. That was also, of course, a period of serious racial tension.

Regarding the game, I'm looking forward to it. OK, none of the series is a free as GTA or Saints Row, but few games are.

I'll be honest, I bought Mafia 1 as I'd heard rumours of a Godfather game as I've always loved the films, and was intrigued by the possibilities offered by a game. I found that while I enjoyed the Godfather game, I was going back to Mafia again and again. Much more so than The Godfather. Mafia 2 didn't have quite the same impact, but was still enjoyable.

There is in game footage online now and it is definitely set in 1968.
