Separating Openreach from BT
"Ofcom is mulling over whether separating Openreach from BT would mean wider benefits for consumers, putting paid to BT’s incentive to discriminate against rival providers.
However, Ofcom noted: “The process would be challenging and it may not address some concerns relating to Openreach – such as service quality, or the timing and level of investment decisions.”" Good or bad thing? Source http://www.itproportal.com/2015/07/1...reach-from-bt/ |
Re: Separating Openreach from BT
Indifferent.
A bunch of people think Openreach will magically start rolling out FTTP en masse the moment they are spun off, however I see no reason to think anything substantial would change in this regard. I do not see a huge amount of bias against other operators on the part of Openreach that this would address. Openreach's problems are Openreach problems, and whether part of BT Group PLC or not many of these would remain. Not worth the time, money or effort. Unbundling Openreach's dark fibre alongside service guarantees would suffice. |
Re: Separating Openreach from BT
You have the same thought processes myself Carl.;)
It may give the consumer the impression things will change but in reality won't change anything. Stronger service guarantees and unbundling the dark fibre would change things radically. |
