Things we’ve learnt from the Guardian’s profile of Ed Miliband’s campaign

1. The Edstone went through ten approval meetings :disturbd:
2. Team Miliband completely underestimated the SNP threat
3. Miliband asked his brother three times to be shadow chancellor
4. Miliband locked himself in his hotel room after forgetting to mention the deficit
5. David Axelrod was appalled at Labour’s ‘low quality’ ideas

link
You couldn't make it up :D

Suffice to say that from the moment he was elected leader of the Labour party instead of his brother the party was doomed to electoral disaster and so it proved.

Let me suggest a new party motto:

Labour - Inept in office, Inept in opposition

:D

I don't understand how SNP was meant to have affected the Labour AND Lib Dem vote in England? Even if Labour had won all of the seats in Scotland, it would still be a Conservative government.

It's thought that voters didn't want a Labour/SNP alliance (informal or otherwise), so a lot of those who may have voted Labour in England voted Tory instead.

I'm not convinced David Miliband would have been any better

As Hugh said, I think the message delivered throughout the campaign by Cameron and Sturgeon was the ultimate final nail in the coffin for Ed. With Tories, it was a case of vote Dave and get Boris (similar to the ticket in 2005 of Labour with vote Tony, get Gordon) whereas the other notion was vote Ed, get Nicola. I think that may certainly have helped swing it for Tories. Plus, it was all well and good attacking the coalition for what they had done, but I heard no real policies from Labour's manifesto that made me seriously think about using my vote for Labour.

Reports from behind the scenes of election campaigns are always interesting.

Except they really did make all of it up. And then expected us to vote for it. :erm:

You don't think the spectacle of an angry little Glaswegian leftie promising to prop up Miliband in a hung parliament might have made a few English floating voters to go for the blue team instead?

From what l have read quite a few went over to the blue team.

Re: Things we’ve learnt from the Guardian’s profile of Ed Miliband’s campaign

Another reason they lost might be the fact that they told their voters to vote Conservative. Now, I know the main thinking was in Scotland only to try and stop the SNP winning all those seats. However, I suspect a lot of voters might have taken this to heart and actually voted Tory on the behest of Miliband.

Where I live the majority would vote in a donkey if it was Tory..and have done so for 30+ years.
