Tory candidate suspended over race hate vote plot

Afzal Amin, the election candidate for Dudley North, was filmed by former English Defence League leader Tommy Robinson allegedly asking the group to pretend to stage a march against a new £18m mosque which he would then be seen to take the credit for stopping.

Sadly nothing surprises me as we have gone the way of America in the mucky battle for votes.

Such a stupid and audacious attempt to win votes. It's amazing he thought he would get away with it and spoke so openly about it. He first attempts to intentionally stir-up hatred so he can claim to have defused it, would then use the positive news story to further his career while at Westminster, promised to act in the best interests of the EDL when he got into power?

Even if it did work how long would the EDL have keep quiet about it? Why did he trust them so much that he told them the entire plan without a hint of evasiveness or obfuscation?

The entire thing seems like a plot of House of Cards.

Still at least this was caught early before he got in. It also looks like he has finished any prospects for the Conservatives in winning that seat from Labour and the election is going to be so close that each lost seat can be very costly.

EDIT: Even more interesting is this Ashcroft poll from Dudley North from December: http://lordashcroftpolls.com/2015/01/dudley-north/

Tories abandon them in the wake of this scandal and UKIP are going to win the seat.

And UKIP at still at 7/2 to win the seat! Time for a bet me thinks :D

I'm hoping they come down on him like a ton of bricks. With the Tories wetting themselves at the prospecting of losing the race/immigration vote to UKIP this is possibly worst way it could have backfired, short of Cameron being caught wearing an SS uniform.

This incident doesn't seem to be as popular as the other party incidents. I wonder why?

It might be because he doesn't belong to a party that claims to be different from the rest and "anti-politics".

What?

It's the front page and main item of BBC and Sky News. Front page of the Daily Mail. One of the top stories on the Guardian. It seems only The Telegraph and The Mirror (oddly) are not leading with it.

if it's true, he should be kicked out of the party.

He may have meant as popular on this forum. If the candidate had been a Labour party candidate .. well, you can work it out from here ..

I think there isn't a reaction because no one will defend this and therefore no conflict. Everyone knows it's out of order. If he was UKIP (which is what I assume you're getting at) the thread would be longer because people would object and we'll all argue. :D

Well it does not matter what party it is as any impropriety needs to be stamped out quickly whoever it is.
