Please help me, I think Ive been conned.
Good evening I'm new
Im 86 years of age and have very bad eyesight and hearing. I signed up to virginmedia as I wanted ITVBE as I love TOWIE and wanted the chance to record it or watch it on catch up and I also love Benefits Britain, Life on the dole. I also wanted internet so i can chat with my family on SKYPE. The sales man told me he could send me an extra large button Tivo remote control but the engineer said there is no such thing. is this true? If it is the Tivo box is going into the fire. Thank you PEARL |
Re: Please help me, I think Ive been conned.
The programs you've mentioned are all available on freeview?
To be honest i've never heard of a big button remote but there are people here who work for Virginmedia so they may be able to advise better. |

You cant get a big buton remote but you can get a high contrast remote for poor eyesight.

I asked the team on Twitter and they said they have never done a big button remote for the TiVo, so yes it seems you were lied to.

Re: Please help me, I think Ive been conned.
The RNIB advertise a large button remote and I see also that Amazon advertise a few. You could try either of these places.

I would suggest you check with your local Citizen's Advice Bureau, as I am not a solicitor, and they may even be able to help you deal with Virgin. Regarding your TV, everything you mention is available on Freeview, and it may be easier to buy a Freeview box, with a large button remote. Regarding your internet connection, any supplier should be able to provide a connection adequate for Skype. While I've been a happy Virgin customer for years (since the Cable and Wireless days), I would not stay with a company if they had so blatantly lied to me. Unless you actually want the Tivo service, in which case Virgin is your only option in this country. |

You have 28days to change your mind and cancel, so no need to seek advice, just cancel

Re: Please help me, I think Ive been conned.
Hi Pearl, Members are all helpful, sometimes funny with there answers. but good people.
What to do is simple. Call Customer Services in the morning, as you should get the UK CS. They talk more sense. Tell them what the sales rep told you. And they should help you. I have been lied to so much over the years that l could write a book. If you do that, you might also get a discount. If you don't. Do what others have suggested got Freeview. Or change from VM to Freesat from Sky. If you call Sky, they normally sell it to you. I think its about £100.00 I have Freesat from Sky, but only because l had Sky originally. Any other help, just let us know. Arthur |
