What sad news. He coped so valiantly with his 'embuggerance' I almost believed he would live forever.

RIP Sir Terry.

Oh god, that sucks.

Note to self: I really need to properly make an effort to collect the Discworld novels. I tried to read them as a child but don't remember enough of them, which frankly is criminal.

RIP.

Thank you, Sir Terry, for so much humour and wisdom - the world is a lesser place for your passing.

RIP.

I had all of them (upto a few years ago) then gave them away. My wife said the charity shop were very pleased to see them as well as loads of other SciFi and fantasy titles, whole series mostly.

Sad to see him go.

A long-running tribute to late fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett is being staged with the help of some of the web's servers.
Many administrators have added an entry to the text sent to every visitor that includes the writer's name.
Quote:

In the Discworld novel Going Postal, Sir Terry, who died aged 66 on Thursday, wrote about the way that the murder of an operator of a semaphore tower, John Dearheart, was marked by his colleagues.
His name was included in admin messages (known as overhead) sent around the semaphore or "clacks", network prefixed with three control characters, GNU, that kept it circulating forever.
In a similar way, many net server and website administrators are adding the text "X-Clacks-Overhead: GNU Terry Pratchett" to the headers their machines share with every computer that requests web pages from them.
:D

"It's not worth doing something unless you were doing something that someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren't doing."

- I love that one. It's going on a T-shirt.

He once visited Sweetens bookshop (now, sadly, closed - I miss it [and the cute, heavily freckled redhead who sold me many a book there!]) to sign copies of The Fifth Elephant; my mum, rest her soul, got me one for my birthday.

Who was that idiot critic who ranted: "...doesn't even write in chapters...hasn't a clue"? I put it to him that he was the clueless one - Terry's Discworld novel sales were up in the several tens of millions by this point, so even to someone who hadn't read his work, it surely must have seemed he was getting something right, yes? Mind you, Heinlein had it right when he (via Lazarus Long in Time Enough For Love) said: "A 'critic' is a man who creates nothing and thereby feels qualified to judge the creative work of others. There is logic in this; he is unbiased - he hates all creative people equally."

We'll all miss you, Terry.

Fans of Terry Pratchett, who died last month, have created a series of graffiti tributes to the author.

One of the artworks is located on Code Street in London's East End, near to where Brick Lane meets Sclater Street, and features both the author and characters from his Discworld series of novels.
