Yes it is a sad day. Hopefully the show will continue for a while to come, although I still haven't seen anything since Series 24. Must find them to watch.

Sam Simon has had pretty much nothing to do with The Simpsons for a very, very long time now. Even the Golden Era (seasons 3 - 8/9) were mostly down to the others. What Sam Simon did was help create the world and characters they used and he hired most of the writers. He is also the creator of Mr Burns which should earn him a place in history.
