Party mums spared jail

Quote:

Two mothers who left their two young children home alone so they could go partying have avoided jail terms.

The women, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, were each given a six-month sentence suspended for two years at Gloucester Crown Court.

The children, aged six and seven, were left alone for 12 hours until police called at the flat.

Judge Euan Ambrose told the women: "You put your own selfish pleasure above the welfare of your children."

When arriving at the house at 05:40 BST on Friday 26 April, police found the frightened girl and boy in squalid conditions.

The girl was crying and had no clothing on her bottom half, police said.

The bedrooms upstairs contained dirty mattresses with little bedding to keep the children warm.

When asked by police where their mothers were, the boy said his mum told him she had gone to the high street.

The girl said she had not eaten since breakfast the day before.

Despite the lack of food, police found several bottles of wine and spirits.
Money for booze and nights out but not to feed and clothe their children. Disgusting.

I could always sterilise you, pop you in a vat of boiling water for 5 minutes should do it.

This story makes me so sad. I'm shocked that she got the boy back especially after it was confirmed that their was little food and the bedrooms upstairs contained dirty mattresses with little bedding to keep the children warm. IMO it would have been better for the children to be put into foster care where they could experience family life after all children follow by example. All any child wants is a warm bed, food in their stomach and to feel safe & loved in the house they live.

Yep, I wonder how long those little kids were suffering at the hands of their so called 'mothers' before this came to light.

At least hopefully now someone will watch over them Osem, although I fail to understand as to why anyone would do this to any child.

A large group of single mums are always seen in the local pub. I'm told they put all their kids one in house with one teenage babysitter. The authorities were called a few times, but each time nothing caused any change in their habits.

Maybe the kids are OK then, or the Social Workers aren't doing their jobs properly.

They should have been jailed and the kids took of them. Disgraceful.

No excuse for this if you've got the money to party you have enough to get a babysitter but the obvious neglect here should have also caused action to be taken but seems they have guardian angels. There are some serious social issues in this country that need to be sorted out before we can finally get back on track.
