I'm so glad I'm not a major footy fan. It wouldn't be so bad if all this TV money percolated down to real fans by way of reasonable ticket prices etc. but I imagine the big beneficiaries will be 'highest bidder' players who are already earning obscene amounts of money and couldn't give a stuff about the clubs or the fans.

One of the prime reasons I do not subscribe to Sky (and now BT) is their sport orientation. I don't like sports, so I do not want to support it in any way. If sport is the opium of the masses, I'm teetotal.

I only watch Super league so one of my options now will be to drop the sky sports package during the parts of the year that Super league is not shown or look at ways of getting sports channels cheaper. I am expecting Sky to bump there prices up a far bit to cover for the money they have just spent on football rights.

:tu:

If the fans of football (not me) are prepared to pay any amount to watch a rather silly game then we shouldn't be surprised when the clubs step up to fill their boots.

I mean look at this idiot who will sell a kidney to get to see a match.

You have to remember that some of these folks will actually fight, maim and even kill people who dare to support another team. Clearly there's something substantially wrong in their heads...
