Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
So the website now states
"Your speed supercharge is ready! Great news. We’ve upgraded our network in your area, so your speed supercharge is ready and waiting for you. Sign in to My Virgin Media to find out what speed you can look forward to." If i login to my virgin media it says that the speed will be ready between Jan 2015 and Jan 2015. How do I get 100Mb upgrade? |
Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
It should be automatic, once you have registered your interest in the upgrade, as I remember rightly. One day your modem will freeze, then reboot, then sit there doing nothing for a few seconds as it downloads the new config file, then... Hey presto, you have the upgrade.
VM push it out, you can't do anything to get it before they push it out, except upgrade to the next tier of service which costs money. |
Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
Anyone else having delays with this speed upgrade? I'm a Watford/Bushey postcode (WD23) and was originally informed (in My Virgin Media via the online pop-up) that my speed boost, in this case 30MB to 50Mb, would happen last year. When it didn't I complained and asked for and got the Superhub 2 upgrade at reduced price; although looking at some forum posts I might have got it for free had I gone to Retentions and threatened to cancel. Anyway the pop-up changed to a date between January 2015 and January 2015, and here we are into February and still no speed update. I complained again (twice) and was told it would be a week and now today another 10 days and I'd have to 'request it' whatever that means. This time I got a £20 refund off my Line Rental saver which had gone up from £120 last time to £164 now! What with the ****poor communication of the upgrade and the recent price hikes I'm beginning to wonder is it time I left? and that's from a 10+ year customer! In the meantime if anyone can shed some light on the elusive upgrade in my area I'd be interested, thanks.

Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
you need to ring up retentions and they'll see whether the work for your area has been done or not yet . If it has, they should push the upgrade no probs, if it hasn't and it has been delayed they'll still push through the upgrade but it is classed as a "requested re-tier" and you are basically asking for something which isn't available yet. You'll still get it for free but you'll have to agree to another 1 year contract.

Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
Thanks General Maximus. I checked the speed upgrade again today at http://keepup.virginmedia.com/speedupgrade and it now states by end of March 2015 and that's just to tell me when the upgrade will be ready! So called Retentions as you advised, complained (again!), and they simply did the 50mb upgrade there & then and took the princely sum of .64 pence off my bill! why couldn't CS do that when I spoke to them last week? :( I did have to renew for 12 months as you said.

Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
Don't worry, for the next wave of uplifts things will be slightly different. People can phone all they want for the super-duper top speed but they'll need a new modem for it, it simply won't have a configuration file for the SH2AC and below. :)

Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
Makes sense, I don't think 300Mbit over 8 channels would be ideal.
|
Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
Ignition himself said several times 400Mbit over 8 channels is feasible.
Anyway... Superhub 3 speculation. Go. |
Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
Feasible, sure, but probably not ideal. Haven't we already seen specs of a supposed SH3 that has 16/8 channels or something?

Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
I must admit that I am getting fed up with VMs spin about upgrading my BB speed from 30 to 50 and every time I check when this is going to happen the date slips another month.
My speed at the moment is not too bad but I think that VM should not build your hopes up and then continuously let you down. FWIW I live near to leicester. |
Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
I tried to get the upgrade today as it is finally being offered here but the website broke. :(

Re: Free speed upgrade ready, but how?
I've had my upgrade for months, yet that notice displays every single time I log in to my account
