BT Internet - Hasn't worked properly for weeks. Help!

Hi All,

Long story short, I was with TalkTalk who charged me £49.99 for an OpenReach engineer to "fix" my internet. It was constantly dropping out, and speeds were around 2mbps (I was told the average would have been about 8mbps).
The engineer installed a new microfilter. Did not solve the problem, still got charged. So I changed to BT who assured me my line was fine.
Guess what, I now get less than 1mbps, and they want to charge £129.99 for the same BT OpenReach engineer... Work that out!

Anyway, I've had a look at my socket - it looks like this. The green aren't connected. Orange and Orange/White going to A/B connection, and the blue has been tied together.

Everything is plugged straight into the test socket (that is how the house was when I moved in). Been with BT for a year now, and have never had stable internet.

Is there anything I can do myself, before having to call an engineer - who will no doubt charge me.

I do not use a phone, as everytime we receive a phone call the internet would drop out and it would take days to come back on. So we removed the phone to eliminate that as the problem.

Any advice or help is appreciated :-D

If you are already connected as directly as possible to the incoming line there's nothing much else you can do. The problem is BT's responsibility and they have to deal with it (or well, Openreach).

Nonetheless it does sound like a fairly common fault your line has, though I can't name exactly what it might be - the folks over on TBB forums or Kitz may be able to tell you better.

If your internet would literally go off for days every time you made a phone call I'd be pushing seriously for compensation or or leaving. If you can afford it, AAISP are known for good service, they also offer to fix existing line problems for free if you migrate to them.

Sounds like either corroded wires coming into the house or a REIN issue...

There should be some kind of filter/splitter plugged into the master socket to separate the phone and data. If that's missing then the internet will certainly suffer when using the phone.
