The BBC3 proposed closure consultation has begun. What does this mean for VM?

Have your say here if you have an opinion about the proposed closure of BBC3.

Interestingly, the questionnaire says that if the closure goes ahead, some BBC3 programmes will be made available on Virgin Media.

I wonder if this means VM will stream the channel in a linear fashion from the internet, relates to VOD or something else??

I would expect most of that answer would be based on what the BBC are prepared to offer i.e. when they say 'on Virgin' it could well be just an update to the existing Connected Red Button app that is already used for additional content.

Even if it's via the VoD, that's basically already there too.

I can't see the BBC being willing for Virgin Media to carry anything as linear channel when other platforms couldn't or wouldn't - they have to maintain parity across platforms.

So Virgin Media's actual involvement would seem to be minimal from a technical perspective.

Not only on Virgin Media though, Richard. It may also be available to Sky and others.

How it would be made available is not a difficult one to answer. It will red button and/or BBC i-Player.
