Global outrage at Saudi Arabia as jailed blogger receives public flogging.

But they sell their friends oil and they in turn sell them weapons.

"Saudi Arabia is remaining silent in the face of global outrage at the public flogging of the jailed blogger Raif Badawi, who received the first 50 of 1,000 lashes on Friday, part of his punishment for running a liberal website devoted to freedom of speech in the conservative kingdom.

Anger at the flogging – carried out as the world watched the bloody denouement of the Charlie Hebdo and Jewish supermarket jihadi killings in Paris – focused on a country that is a strategic ally, oil supplier and lucrative market for the US, Britain and other western countries but does not tolerate criticism at home."

Why I will never go to Saudi Arabia, despite being offered not insignificant sums of money to do so for work.

EDIT: While I'm at it kinda related here's a bunch of hypocrites who had the gall to send representatives to the rally in Paris while doing anything but permit freedom of speech in their own jurisdictions.

Indeed. David Cameron was also there. His government have certainly done their bit though governments sticking 2 fingers squarely up to freedom of speech has been around at very least since his idol and heroine, Margaret Thatcher, was in power.

The Paris march was a powerful statement, unfortunately as you rightly point out, infested with hypocrisy.

Some French are really upset at the presence of certain government representatives at the rally, due to their anti-journalist history, however tentative.

But one group is specifically upset at the presence of one particular person from Israel.

Guess which "group" that is? And how their howling indignation is by far the loudest and most acerbic?
