Well, I for one don't.

If the SNP win a large amount of seats in the next General Election then they can use that new found influence how they like. Scotland is still part of the UK and has every right for it's members of parliament to form alliances with whom they wish.

Because of our rather quaint First Past The Post electoral system, we don't have much experience with political alliances and coalitions, which are common in Europe and elsewhere. If this was in any country with PR nobody would bat an eyelid at -shock horror- 2 political parties using the old "The enemy of my enemy is my friend" motive.

Agreed and perhaps we will end the continual seesawing from one ideology to another, pursue a more centralist agenda and cease the endless re-organisations of public services which really serves no purpose than to divert money from front line activities.

Aside from that, this coalition has actually been the first government in living memory where the majority actually voted for one of the parts of the regime in charge.

When a party can win 40% of the vote, not even a plurality, and command a sizeable majority of power, it makes for a system where the majority of voters did not actually agree with the people in power, making a mockery of the idea of a popular mandate.

If in total, LAB and SNP command more votes (And seats) than the Tories, they should form the government, whether you like them or not, just as combined the Tories and Lib Dems combined took 59% of the vote and thus had the mandate to rule combined.

Coalition politics need not be a dirty word, it works.

The SNP were massively helped by Cameron's idiotic decision to try and play politics the morning after the vote in attaching conditions to the devolution that was promised in the campaign. It immediately allowed the SNP to say they were moving the goalposts and going back on the vow as soon as they got the vote they wanted. Cameron eventually relented but the damage was done.

The biggest fear in the Tories get back in and sell more public companies.

The police force could still be contracted out to the highest bidder. ;)

I would say don't give them any ideas but that's a plan already being worked on by them.

OmniCorp are much maligned and misunderstood. Give them a chance.

As for the SNP, well I hope they continue to make grand claims for the number of seats they're going to win in May. When they fail to come close to it, they will just look (even more) stupid, even if they significantly improve on their current tally, which they doubtless will.

Heh.

Anyway, when has a political party NOT vastly overestimated how many seats they're going to win in an upcoming election?

I'd be worried if they said "Nah, we're going to do rubbish, it isn't worth voting for us" to questions of their prospects. That would be silly, maybe the Lib Dems would say that! :p
