TV Volume & Sound Bars

Hi - received an LG Soundbar for Christmas - couldn't find a code for LG so used the default but the remote wouldn't operate the volume. Should it be able to?

ok - found son set speakers to Audio System which turned tv speakers off - have now changed that and am happy.
