Watching Virgin Media on windows media center

Hi Guys,

First time poster long time reader :)

I currently have a laptop with Windows Media Center installed and a DVB-T TV USB Stick, which I use to watch freeview channels on my laptop and Xbox 360.

My internet searches are a bit hit and miss, but I'd like to know if its possible to watch Virgin Media TV, on my laptop via some kind of Video capture DVB-C device.

If so, can someone please recommend one , My budget would be £50 maximum .

Thank you :)

It is against Virgin Media Ts&Cs to connect to the cable network without a subscription and via a set top box supplied by Virgin Media.

You would need to subscribe to VMs services and have a STB with them.

Some channels can be watched online via TV anywhere.

Sorry, I should have explained better. I do currently subscribe to Virgin media and have a Tivo box downstairs and a V+ HD box upstairs. The cable would go into the STB as normal, I'm wondering if someone could recommend a video capture device so I could record the shows onto my laptop.

The cable would still be connected to their STB, which isn't against the T&C.

Regards

If you have a TiVo why would you want to record to the laptop?

To record movies, tv shows ect and store on an external HDD ( for personal use )

That would be against the VM T&Cs I am sure.

I don't think it is to be honest. What you you do with the standard output of a VM STB is pretty much up to you.

The only 'supported' output for copying from both V+ and TiVo is SCART.

You just need a composite video capture device, and a suitable SCART lead. Google for "USB video capture". You'll find dozens to choose from.

I got a USB capture card from Aldi for £12 which works well, haven't tried it from Windows Media Center mind. It has component input too so if you have an SA V+ you can transfer stuff in HD
