Sony TV / V+ HDMI problem
I have been given a Sony Bravia TV model KDL-40E40, a few years old but an excellent picture.
I am trying to connect it to my V+ box via HDMI, but it doesn't like the signal that the V+ puts out on its HDMI output. I've tried setting the V+ output to 720 and 1080, but each time the TV shows a message "Invalid signal". I haven't got the handbook for the TV, but going through the setup menus I can't find any way of finding what HDMI signals it will accept. I've tried both HDMI inputs on the TV, and used a different HDMI cable. Can anyone advise please? Thanks! |
Re: Sony TV / V+ HDMI problem
The manual is available online if you Google for the model number. Basically it should support all of the V+'s formats, so I'd suspect the TV is broken I'm afraid.
ps. Welcome to the forum! |

Re: Sony TV / V+ HDMI problem
Many thanks chaps for the welcome and those very quick replies! I'll check out the TV manual.
The HDMI inputs do work OK because I've tried connecting a DVD player on both. When I first switch on the V+ box from cold, the TV screen shows the V+ starting up message and a pop-up "576p". But when the V+ has finished booting, the screen blacks and the "invalid signal" message appears. |
Re: Sony TV / V+ HDMI problem
Hope you get it sorted.
I think you have to set the TV HDMI input first. |
Re: Sony TV / V+ HDMI problem
Thanks johnathome.
According to the TV manual it should accept either the 720 or 1080 signals from the V+ box. And the V+ HDMI worked fine with my old TV - before it died. I'll have another look tomorrow. |

If you have a Samsung V+, try setting it to SCART output. It will then output 576i on the HDMI. This doesn't work on the Scientific-Atlanta V+ though. |
Re: Sony TV / V+ HDMI problem
Yes it is a Samsung V+.
So far I have been using the SCART connection, and from memory I think the HDMI output disappeared after the boot up. I'll check again tonight. I'll also try setting the DVD output to 720p and 1080i (if that's possible) to duplicate the V+ output. If the DVD works, then it sounds as if the HDCP may have failed in the V+ box. |
Re: Sony TV / V+ HDMI problem
I had the same problem with a Sony TV. It had the problem with a V+ box, a Tivo and a Sky box. If you set up as you want (1080i) on the box, you then have to switch through standby twice and it works, ie switch on, switch off and switch back on again straight after. Very annoying but only work around I could find.

Re: Sony TV / V+ HDMI problem
Well, the TV sees a 1080i signal from my DVD player, but not one from the V+ box. I reckon this proves the V+ box is at fault. I'm going to call in VM support.
Many thanks for the help here. |

Re: Sony TV / V+ HDMI problem
It would be a pain to get the bedroom TV off the wall, but I did think about taking th V+ box upstairs. There is no VM feed up there, but it would prove the point.
However I've booked the visit now so we'll see what the man says. I will report back. |
