Bt infinity in old mod property

I am after some advice please.

BT Infinity is being rolled out all around the old MOD property I live in. (There are 130 properties in all)

We were told by an engineer working on the rollout that we will not get Infinity as we are connected to the exchange using the old MOD system.

Writing to BT seems to take for ever and no reply to date.

What do we need to do to get Infinity? If the cost is reasonable we are happy to pay for the additional work needed.

Do we have to use BT or can we just contract a cable company ourselves?

Hello and welcome!

What the engineer probably meant was that your house is connected to a different green cabinet than the rest of the nearby properties, and that Openreach aren't looking to upgrade that cabinet to fibre. Whereabouts in the country are you?

Ahaa, the reason I ask is a friend of mine lives in an ex-MOD property near Huntingdon. They managed to get BT infinity in the end but their problem was that most of the phone lines in the area were aluminium.

The best way to go forward IMO is to use this checker

https://www.btwholesale.com/includes/adsl/adsl.htm

If you put your phone number in there it should tell you what cabinet you're connected through, and from there you can work out if its likely to be upgraded to fibre.
