can any tune up software do damage.

Registry cleaners or tune up software

i used CCleaner in the past and it did lots of damage to my computer.
computer became useless. and missing windows files.

also used tune up utilities, registry mechanic. all seem to make damage.

is there a good software without damaging my computer to clean up files and Registry ?

Definitely, though CCleaner is usually pretty safe.

Registry cleaning is potentially dangerous, in the battle to be seen to "do something", they may remove entries that are not being used YET!

The best boost for registry, is not "cleaning", but compaction - closing up the gaps left by deletions and alterations, removing internal fragmentation, then removing external fragmentation with a disk defrag that can do boot time defrag to do registry & pagefile etc.

I have been using CCleaner for years without issue, that was until last month when it borked my registry which couldn't be repaired.
Still use it tho as I find it a versatile programme.

I use Registry First Aid and have never had a problem; it creates a registry back up each time before it does the business

CCleaner is very good indeed. Just dont delete anything from the registry cleanup if you are unsure of what you are doing.
Onyx is also a good clean up tool for the Mac.

We stopped using CCleaner at work a few years ago as it was causing some serious issues with offline files in windows XP.

Personally I avoid all registry checkers apart from malwarebytes and my usual AV

I used to use registry mechanic all the time and loved it and then it was bought by Symantec and put into their system tools and it got ruined.

I have used CCleaner with no issues, but you need to know what to delete.
