Chinese knockoff GPU's

My mate sent me this today and he has every intention of buying

http://m.aliexpress.com/item-desc/2040382217.html

What is this monstrosity. An actual 780 that's been awfully manufactured and will send your build into oblivion or worse and likely a plain card with some shiny fans on it? The picture doesn't even closely resemble that of the 780. The specs are completely different too after a second reading.

I've offered him a spare 760 to use over his 460 but he's really considering this dodgy thing.

lol, that's the smallest 780ti ever then. I have the 780ti and it's huge compared. If he doesn't take your advice then I'd just let him go for it.

Never really gave him advice other than its probably fake or won't even come.

Given the seller rating it's likely the product is real and you actually receive what's in the picture but to the untrained eye or just plain non savvy they'll receive what appears to be a 9600 series

Doesn't look much smaller than the MSI 780 Ti

That said, they're quite obviously stock photos and not pictures of the actual product.

Good job AliExpress has a buyer protection guarantee then. It's a bitch to make a claim but often you get to keep the product and get your money back.

The seller also offers a returns policy and will even pay half the return costs for you if it's not faulty.

Neither the front or the back picture looks anything like a 9600 series...

It is a fake tell him to not get it.

There are loads of them on Ebay.

Generally they are low end cards with the bios flashed to make them look like they are better cards.

You can tell it's a fake straight away because, of the 2Gb of Vram and then there is the fact it's using GDDR3 instead of GDDR5, the clock speed is to low by 300mhz.

You can look here it when the page loads as Bit-Tech seems to be having issues.

Oh my god that is so fake it isn't funny.

Firstly the 780Ti has 3GB (or 6) of VRAM, it has 2880 shaders, not the laughable 128 mentioned here and is GDDR5. That will so so slow it's not even funny. Would be fun to buy just to rip off the cooler and actually see what GPU they've BIOS flashed to pretend it's a 780Ti really!

He's not buying. Now he's discovered he can get cards on finance. I give up tbf. On last look he's still using a Phenom II X4 as well.

If he needs to buy GPUs on finance that alone is enough reason for him to not bother taking the risk.
