HP Proliant N36L and SSD

I am considering buying a SSD to put in my server purely for the OS and use my 1tb HD as my storage drive, my question is do I need a certain type of sata connector or should I just use the standard sata cable that I currently connect my HD with.

There is only one type of SATA connector.

Just don't buy a PCIe, NVMe, SATAe, or SAS drive. Those aren't SATA drives and won't work with a SATA controller whatever cable you buy.

Just to elaborate slightly.

Drives sold as SATA1, SATA2, SATA3...etc all have the same connector just the ability to transmit data at different speeds through the interface.

They are all revisions of the same connector.

Realistically, it's your motherboard that will be the limitation here so a SATA3 drive on a SATA1 motherboard will connect at SATA1 speeds.
