Updating V+ boxes at odd times

I thought that this happened at around midnight to one in the morning.Recently it seems to have been midday.Tonight it was just after 10pm..

What's going on?It's not helpful as I might have been recording something. As it is I missed the last five minutes of a show I was watching..:(

No updates are sent in the evening. Do you mean it rebooted? Were there any messages on the screen?

This time it was that V+ was being re subscribed..and then it rebooted..and the other times the system froze and then rebooted.

my V+ box used to reboot at 6am but then it changed its time and all of a sudden it would do it at 2am - yesterday it did this at 10am - its a shame there is no setting that can be set to tell the box the most convenient time to update { or whatever its doing } - most of these I suspect are just checking the card is valid - fine but some weeks it can do this five times in the week.

OK, I thought it might be that. It's a fault, not an update. At the moment there isn't a resolution but we're looking at it.

Reboots between 4am and 06:30 are usually due to planned engineering work. Software updates may happen earlier in the night (from 1am onwards) but are very rare - the last V+ software update was about 3 years ago. Planned reboots never happen outside these times.

I suspect you are experiencing the same fault as Maggy. It's been happening to a lot of V+ boxes recently.

With all these bundle offers is there now any point in limping along keeping V+ as a primary PVR box for a customer, sorry personal opinion!

well if a TiVo could do what a V+ box does then I would have changed years ago but Virgin have decided to switch off the feature where you can play back in the background

I am paying £55.65 for V+ - TV XL and 20mb Broadband - Virgin pricing does not make any sense at all but they wont give me a better price unless I ditch the V+ box.

the V+ box is not limping along apart from the odd restart its working fine

It wasn't switched off, the TiVo hardware has never been designed to do it in the first place.

Even between the SA and Samsung V+ HD boxes it works differently due to hardware differences.

at the time when it was first launched there was a big debate over what it could and could not do and it was claimed ' the software was changed ' to disable that feature.

it was all over the boards at the time and that is why many V+ users have not switched over to TiVo.

Well that's wrong. It's physically impossible for TiVo to output two different things over HDMI and Scart

However considering you go from a 160GB hard drive in the V+ HD to either 500GB or 1TB in TiVo, the need to copy off content is much less of an issue anyway.

I would like to upgrade to Tivo but until the V+HD breaks Him indoors won't have it as it costs to upgrade.Even then I'll bet he'll stick his heels in.

He wanted to go to Freeview until he saw how awful Freeview was at his mother's house.

Dump him and get the TiVo it's much more reliable and does not dig it's heels in;):D
