Virgin Media Web Safe
 
I logged into my account online and notice this is active and says it protects against viruses and malware.

How does it protect tho when i dont use their internet security?

It blocks access to websites that are known to contain malware

How are sites reported to Virgin to be blocked or unblocked for example?

Virgin probably uses a list supplied and maintained by another company.

No idea if they use a transparent proxy, DNS or some other way of implementing it though.

Yes, third party list through a combination of DNS and a transparent proxy system.
